Unit 4

Happy Yamboree! We will begin Unit 4 when students return from break... but I thought I would go ahead and post this so that if students had free time (and needed something to do!) they could get a jump start and expose themselves to what is to come! Even just attempting the games below or watching the video will build prior knowledge for this unit!

In Unit 4 we will continue to grow students understanding of integers. Unit 3 we began by defining then locating and ordering integers on the number line. This unit, we will now take our understanding of integers on the number line and apply it to integer operations. Students will be responsible for understanding how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers using a number line as well as the standard algorithms.

Below you will find four essential questions for this unit. In the next 10 days, your student should begin to develop ideas about these questions. These will not be on any test, however, I do believe that these key understandings will certainly help them be prepared for our units to come.

Unit 4 Essential Questions:

  1. How can positive and negative numbers be represented in real-world problem situations?

  2. What relationships exist between a number, its opposite, and its absolute value?
