Unit 3: Ordering Fractions, Decimals, and Integers
During this unit, students continue their understanding of equivalency (that we began in Unit One) by generating and using equivalent forms of fractions, decimals, and percents to order rational numbers.
We will build on our understanding of ordering positive forms of numbers by introducing the negative aspect of the number line!
Students will also classify the various forms they are ordering under three classifications. Rational Numbers -> Integers -> Whole Numbers
Below you will find four essential questions for this unit. In the next 7 days, your student should begin to develop ideas about these questions. These will not be on any test, however, I do believe that these key understandings will certainly help them be prepared for our units to come.
Unit 3 Essential Questions:
1. How can a number belong to the same set of numbers but not necessarily the same subset of numbers?
2. How many points are between any two points on a number line?
3. How are the negative and positive sides of a number line alike and different?
4. What is the process for ordering numbers in various forms?
